As the impact of the Eric Nnamdi Anyamene Foundation continued to spread across communities, one question increasingly followed Engr. Eric Nnamdi Anyamene wherever he went:
“If one man can accomplish this much without holding elective office, what more could he achieve with the mandate of the people?”
It was a question that reflected the growing confidence many people had in his style of leadership.
For years, he had demonstrated that meaningful service did not have to wait for political office. Yet, through his interactions with communities across Idemili North and South, he became increasingly convinced that sustainable development required not only compassion but also effective representation, purposeful legislation and responsive governance.
His political journey began in 2013 during his service under his principal in government, a period that marked his entry into the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). Throughout his years in the party, he remained committed to dialogue, consensus-building and internal reconciliation.
According to Engr. Anyamene, he invested considerable time and effort in engaging stakeholders and encouraging unity whenever disagreements threatened the cohesion of the party.
Despite those efforts, the internal divisions proved increasingly difficult to overcome. He has said that prolonged disagreements ultimately influenced his decision to seek another political platform through which he believed he could more effectively pursue his vision of grassroots development, inclusive leadership and accountable representation.
Rather than allowing disappointment to end his desire to serve, he chose to begin a new chapter.
Guided by the belief that leadership must always be driven by purpose rather than personal ambition, Engr. Anyamene joined the National Democratic Coalition (NDC), convinced that its ideals were closely aligned with his vision of people-centred governance, transparency, accountability and community-driven development.
On 12 May 2026, he formally purchased the party’s nomination form to contest for the Idemili
North and South Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives. His campaign quickly distinguished itself from conventional political contests.
Instead of asking people to imagine what he might do, he invited them to examine what had already been done.
He pointed to students whose educational dreams had been revived through scholarships and JAMB sponsorships.
He pointed to vulnerable families whose burdens had been eased through food support. He pointed to communities illuminated by solar-powered street lights.
He pointed to patients who had received free medical care.
He pointed to young people whose lives had changed through education, mentorship and employment opportunities.
He pointed to the reconstruction of the historic Eke Obosi Market, a project that symbolised his belief that meaningful development begins with strengthening the economic and social infrastructure that sustains everyday life.
His message remained remarkably consistent.
Leadership is most credible when it is built upon a proven record of service. That message resonated across Idemili North and South.
Following the party’s nomination process, Engr. Eric Nnamdi Anyamene emerged as the NDC candidate for the Idemili North and South Federal Constituency, receiving his nomination form afterwards. For many of his supporters, it represented not merely a political victory but the continuation of a journey that had long been defined by compassion, consistency and service to humanity.
Yet, those closest to him often insist that elections have never been the ultimate destination. They are simply another avenue through which service can be expanded.
